Join us on December 27, 2025, at 2pm EST for a joyful, cat-filled virtual drawing event with internet sensation Poorly Drawn Cats (@poorlycatdraw), also known as Brazilian artist Heloísa Nora. Presented by the Cat Museum of New York City, this family-friendly live session invites artists of all ages and abilities to ring in the New Year with whimsical cat-themed drawings.
During this interactive tutorial, Heloísa Nora will demonstrate several playful, easy-to-follow cat illustrations—perfect for beginners and experienced artists alike. It’s the first time ever that the artist is giving a live drawing tutorial for U.S. audiences. You’ll be drawing alongside fellow cat-lovers from around the world, plus your participation helps support two important feline-focused organizations. Proceeds from ticket sales benefit both the Cat Museum of New York City, dedicated to public education around cat care and rescue through art exhibitions and pop-ups, and Community Cats Podcast, whose virtual education programs—including TNR (trap-neuter-return) certification—have empowered countless individuals and organizations working to improve the lives of community cats.
The event will kick off with introductions to the Cat Museum of New York City and to Heloísa Nora’s work. Then, grab some paper and your favorite drawing tool—pen, pencil, marker, or anything you like (color optional!)—and follow along as the artist guides you through simple, charming drawings step-by-step.
Since 2016, Heloísa Nora (also known as Poorly Drawn Cats, @poorlycatdraw) has been capturing the liquid essence and humor of cats with just a few expressive pen strokes—earning her a devoted global following and inspiring countless “cattoos” (cat-themed tattoos) of her work. Beyond her art, Heloísa is deeply involved in cat welfare. She volunteers with Crazy Cat Gang, a women-led NGO in Curitiba, Brazil, that rescues cats and addresses the root causes of abandonment through community education. She also supports rescue efforts like Homeward Bound Pet Adoption Center in New Jersey. Follow @poorlycatdraw on Instagram for updates on commissions and new work; she frequently donates a portion of her commissions to help “kitties be fed and treated!”
The event will be hosted via Zoom courtesy of Community Cats Podcast. After registering on Eventbrite, attendees will receive instructions via email on how to join. If you do not receive an email before the week of the event, please contact catmuseumnyc [at] gmail [dot] com.
After the event, all registrants will receive a recording link and digital copies of the drawings demonstrated during the session.
Note: There will not be live cat models presented—though you’re more than welcome to supply your own meow-del at home!
Drawing by Heloísa Nora of Poorly Drawn Cats
There is no in-person location for this event; it is entirely virtual! Heloísa Nora will be leading the drawing tutorial from Curitiba, Brazil. The Cat Museum of New York City will be hosting from NYC. You can tune in anywhere you get internet!
The only art supplies you need at home as you follow along on a screen are paper (any kind) and a drawing implement of your choosing—pen, pencil, marker, etc. (color is optional).
None at all! The tutorials are simple enough that anyone can follow along. (Seasoned artists can embellish on the designs.) Artist Heloísa Nora will show you step-by-step how to create these fun and easy cat drawings. Digital copies of the finished drawings will be emailed after the event.
